Business Growth Advisor – An article by Steve Mills.

As a small business owner, you have to overcome many different problems.

You’ve no doubt got operational problems, financial problems and sales and marketing problems. Let alone the problems caused by people that work for you, clients, suppliers and others.

However, I want to talk to you today about what I believe is the biggest problem facing small businesses in 2022 and that is one word – OBSCURITY!

The simple truth is that not enough people know who you are and overcoming that is a real challenge. Let’s have a look at the numbers.

Let’s assume that you’ve got an email database that you can communicate with on a regular basis of 5,000 people. You’ve also got a social media following that you can also communicate with on a daily basis of 5,000 people and so your sales and marketing list is 10,000 people.

Here lies the problem.

Let’s assume that your target market is accountants in the UK. The last time I heard there were over 35,000 accountants in the UK and your list includes only 10,000 of them.

Therefore there are 25,000 accountants out there who are receiving no form of communication with you at all and there is no current relationship with those people.

So the question is what are you going to do? How are you going to start communicating with 25,000 people on a regular basis? Because if you decide to carry on the way you are, you’re probably going to get similar results to what you’ve always got and assuming that you’re reading this because you want to do better then you need to do better at getting people to know, like and trust you, your business and your products and services.

This is just one element of what I call the 5C’s of marketing. The 5C’s are a simple process that I learned many years ago from a guy called Daniel Priestley. Daniel is great and I strongly recommend his book called – “How to Become a Key Person of Influence”.

I talk about the 5C’s in this video. Have a listen and let me know what you think.
