What is going to happen and What do I need to do?

That’s a good question, and despite what the media will tell you – the TRUTH is NO ONE KNOWS. Business Advice for Small Businesses  If you listen to the media, you’d probably close your business right now and get a job hoping not to be made redundant. One thing we do know is that it is going to get more challenging over the next year.

There are four degrees of action that you can take. These actions will have a massive impact on you, your family, your lifestyle and your business. The question is – Which one are you going to take? 

  1. Doing nothing apart from worrying;
  2. Retreating and cutting back;
  3. Normal action levels and carrying on in denial with your head in the sand; or
  4. Taking massive action and continuing to push forward

Let’s take a look at these options:

1. Doing nothing

Doing nothing and hoping you survive is certainly one option, and it is the option the masses take. Burying your head in the sand and hoping this goes away. I wonder – Is this why 80% of start-up businesses go out after the first five years, and most do so because of poor sales? 

My opinion (Based on my 27 years of experience as a business owner and advisor)

In my opinion, and I am sure it’s in you – Doing nothing is not an option. Your biggest problem in 2022-2023 will be a lack of sales. You need to do something about that before it’s too late!

2. Retreating

You could cut back, and you should. It would be best to cut back on the things you don’t need that waste your money. However, the one thing that you should not cut back on is your sales and marketing effort. Look at it this way. Getting clients and making sales will be difficult when times are tough. Why would you cut back on the things that enable you to get clients? 

My opinion (Based on my 27 years of experience as a business owner and advisor)

As stated, I am all for you, cutting back on the things you don’t need. Do you subscribe to software you don’t use? What else can you reduce that does not reduce your sales?

3. Normal levels of action

This action will happen if you continue marketing your business as you have always done. Your results are going to get worse. Let’s face it; it is going to get more competitive.

Again this is another NO. Spending and reducing means you must work harder to maintain current income levels.

4. Taking Massive Action

What does it mean to take “massive action”? When you start operating this fourth degree of action, your mindset will shift, and so will your results

Here is the other good news – Your competitors won’t be taking this movement! Most of them will continue with normal levels of action, retreating and doing nothing other than struggling to survive or go bust! This action means two things:

  • Now is the excellent time to market your business because your competitors are cutting back, and advertising is getting cheaper;
  • When this business winter is over, spring and summer will arise, and you will be in a far better position than your competitors.
